Helpdesk – Room 4209 – 718-489-5444 - email: Helpdesk@stfranciscollege.edu
St. Francis College has a general Helpdesk for addressing Students, Faculty and Administrative issues. Direct calls, voicemail email is available. The Helpdesk is monitored by different members of the Support Services Group throughout the day. They, in turn, are supported by our Technical support staff and various members of the IT Department. The Helpdesk uses Numara Software’s Trackit Helpdesk System for creating support tickets to track and notify users on the status of their support request.

Supported Hardware
St. Francis College has a mixed environment of Windows, Macintosh and Linux. The college supports both Intel Based Personal Computers as well as Macintosh computers with both Intel and non Intel processors. The minimum network equipment needed is a 10/100/1000 NIC card for wired connections to the LAN considering it is backward compatible. For security reasons personal laptops (those not owned by SFC) may not be connected to the College's Local Area Network (LAN) at any time.   Faculty members may use their personal systems to access the Internet on campus via the College's WIFI services. For their own safety users are urged to read and understand the disclaimer displayed upon connection to the WIFI network.  Please be advised that users connected to the College's WIFI network will not have access to the College's LAN,(Local Area Network) which means they will not have access to their home storage on the Network, email via Outlook, or printing. They will, however, have access to Outlook via the Internet (OWA).

OWA – need to access your email from outside St. Francis College? Here’s a “how to” link.

Credentials and Security
All employees at SFC are provided with a username and associated email address. As part of the college’s security policy user accounts require a password of at least 8 characters and a combination of letters and numbers is recommended. At the point of hire users can get their account credentials by contacting the Support Services Office in Room 4209 or call 718-489-5444. User passwords cannot be provided through email or by phone, for security reasons, this will only be provided in person

Colleague Password Policy
You will be required to regularly change your Colleague password for security reasons as well as to be compliant with auditor requirements.

Your password will expire after 12 weeks. At your first attempt to login after the 12th week you will be prompted to change your password. If you do not login and change your password by the time an additional 12 weeks have passed, you will not be able to login at all, but will instead need to have your password reset by the system administrator.

If you have 5 invalid login attempts your login will automatically be locked and you will not be able to login and would need to be unlocked by the system administrator.

Password must conform to the following standards:

  • The password must have a minimum of 8 characters with a minimum of 4 alphabetic characters and 2 non-alphabetic characters (e.g. 1,2,3,&,@,!)
  • You must have a minimum of 4 characters in the new password that were not in the old password
  • The maximum number of times a given character can appear in your password is 4

We recommend mixing upper and lower case characters for a “stronger” password.

If you are unable to login for any these or other reasons feel free to contact the Help Desk at extension 5444 for assistance.
