Jeffery Deskovic was tried and convicted for a murder he did not commit, even though DNA testing pointed to another man. It took 16 years for him to earn his freedom. Now Deskovic is fighting to help others who have been wrongly convicted, bringing his fight to the St. Francis College Callahan Center, Monday, March 23 at 6:00pm.

“We spend a lot of time at St. Francis College teaching students about wrongful convictions, including coerced confessions,” said Sociology & Criminal Justice Professor Nickie Phillips. “To be able to introduce our students to a man who lost his whole young adult life to a miscarriage of justice is a valuable learning tool not just for our students but for our whole community.”

Colleen Eren, the Organizing Director of New Yorkers for Alternatives to the Death Penalty will also be on hand to talk about their efforts.

The lecture is sponsored by the St. Francis Sociology and Criminal Justice Department.
