The Key to the Getting Ahead Today, Is Understanding the Past
Do you ever wonder about the origins and evolution of our society? How did we arrive at our present moment? Where, as a society, might we be going?
Housed in the department of Economics, History and Political Science, History majors at St. Francis College learn how historical causation and institutional and cultural forces have shaped our increasingly complex and inter-connected modern world, as well as gain the skills they will need to articulate significant historical questions, frame hypotheses, gather evidence, look for patterns and relationships, explore alternative methods and interpretations, and articulate substantive arguments and conclusions clearly and persuasively. These are all skills that are in high demand in today’s work place.
With a degree in History, your career options are virtually limitless. You could be an advertising executive, analyst, archivist, broadcaster, campaign worker, congressional aide, editor, foreign-service officer, information specialist, intelligence agent, journalist, lawyer, lobbyist, public relations staffer, researcher, teacher, and much more.
History majors at St. Francis College can take advantage of a wide variety of internships in law firms; City, State, and U.S. Courts; Museums and Historical Societies throughout the Metropolitan area; with government officials from New York City, New York State, and the U.S Congress; at the United Nations with non-governmental organizations; and much more.
