Learn About Getting a Degree - and Career Options - in the Biological Sciences

Do you like Biology? Are you interested in learning how organisms function and evolve? Do you want to learn about your different body systems and topics like infectious diseases?  Do you like ecology, marine biology, or plants?  As a student in the Biology department at St. Francis College, you’ll learn about these topics and be prepared for a wide variety of exciting careers that utilize the biological sciences.

Biology is the study of the natural world in which we live. You will learn about living organisms at the molecular, microscopic, and systemic levels. After graduation, Biology majors with a BS degree work as teachers, at biological testing companies, or at hospitals, national and state parks, universities, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, research firms, zoos, and more.

And with job growth expected in a number of areas in the biological sciences and the environmental sciences, especially biotechnology and molecular biology, you can look forward to a healthy job market and a career filled with exciting opportunities.

The Biology department at St. Francis College offers majors in Biology (as preparation for medical and graduate school), Biomedical Science (pre-dentistry and pre-podiatry), Medical Technology, and Radiologic Sciences. Radiologic Sciences and Medical Technology are offered jointly with the St. Johns University Catholic Medical Centers of New York (St. Francis College awards the BS degree). We encourage Biology students to consider the diverse opportunities available through field placements, internships, or semesters at other academic institutions, both domestic and abroad. Many of our students conduct summer research projects at such esteemed institutions as Fordham University, the American Museum of Natural History, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the New York City Department of Health, and at companies such as Pfizer, Colgate-Palmolive, and numerous hospitals. Our graduates go on to places such as Albany Medical College, the University of Connecticut Medial School, the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, New York University and Boston University as well as dental colleges and Ph.D. programs at Fordham University, SUNY Buffalo, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

A natural world of wonder awaits you in the Biology Department at St. Francis College today.
