Synopsis
My dissertation seeks to address the relationship between the evolution of modern politics in Jamaica and politically related violence. It is my contention that this process began with the 1938 labor rebellion, out of which Jamaica’s two political parties emerged. Through an examination of the 1938 labor rebellion and its aftermath my dissertation establishes a connection between party leaders and the institutionalization of gang violence.
