Course Placement Exams
Incoming freshmen must participate in the English and mathematics course placement exam prior to their New Student Orientation session. A few select freshmen with higher SAT scores and high school averages may be exempt from taking the placement exam based on the College’s criteria All freshmen will receive a placement exam letter which will indicate whether or not they are required to this exam.
Exempt from the New Student Placement Examination?
In order to prepare your course schedule, we will need you to complete the SFC Freshman
Course Questionnaire which we will use to prepare your academic schedule.
About Placement Testing
Placement testing in English and mathematics helps determine the appropriate first semester courses for you to take according to the course sequence in your academic major. Your SAT scores and high school GPA will determine your placement testing requirements.
For the fall 2011 class, The New Student Placement Examination will be hosted on Saturday, April 30, 2011. Two sessions will be offered and students must choose one of the below sessions and reserve their seat by contacting Samantha Scott, Office of Freshman Studies, at 718. 489.3443 NO LATER THAN April 18th.

Morning session: 9am-11:30am
Afternoon Session: 1pm-3:30pm
This exam will begin promptly, so please be on time! The development of your course schedule will be based on the results of this exam. During this day you will also meet with academic advisors and peer mentors.
If you have special testing accommodations, please contact Mitch Levenberg at 718-489-5274 to schedule a separate testing time.
New Student Orientation/Registration
All new students must participate in an orientation/registration session hosted by the Office of Freshman Studies. During this one day orientation session students meet with faculty, staff, and current students who share information and experiences about how to transition into the St. Francis College community smoothly.
On the day of orientation, students will participate in a program which will better acquaint them with campus resources and provide opportunities to discuss the many facets of college life.
